The National Weather service says Flash Flooding can happen when heavy rain falls occur upstream or nearby. Prepare Before the Water Arrives, NOT After You See it

A FLOOD WARNING means flooding is happening and you Need to Take Action
IF your home is near a river, low lying area, floodplain, creek, drainage channel, large ditches, dam or levee – know which direction water would likely flow from and where the Higher Ground is located. If water starts coming toward your home, What is the quickest way to Higher ground?

Get your people and pets ready. Have phones, chargers, medications, ID’s and important documents, water, food, flashlights, pet supplies, necessary medical equipment and dry change of clothing gathered in bags. Move important THINGS up, people first, pets, then Things
Valuable items, some electronics, important papers or pictures can be moved higher like in upper cabinets, closets or to the second floor if have one. ONLY MOVE what you can Safely.
MOVE YOUR VEHICLE TO HIGHER GROUND – place bag with items into vehicle except phone for information and contact – TAKE PHONE to Weather Radio OUT OF BAG before put in vehicle.

The water is rising toward your house or neighborhood or Officials have ordered an Evacuation LEAVE Put people, pets into vehicles with phone and radio and follow designated evacuation route.
DO NOT DRIVE through a flooded areas especially at night. The road may have collapsed or washed out and you cannot see the status. IF your Vehicle stalls due to being in water: DO NOT try to RESTART and DO NOT OPEN DOORS if water close to or above floor level of vehicle.
LEAVE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY and go to Higher Ground. Fast moving water may wash your vehicle away.
IF Water has move to around car and up to doors:
Use S. W. O. C. Escape Method S – Seatbelts OFF, unbuckle yours, then oldest child, so on to the youngest then any elderly in vehicle. W – Windows OPEN – ROLL DOWN WINDOWS IMMEDIATELY O – Out immediately, climb out through OPEN WINDOW C – Children first, push older children through window first. Elderly – Turn their body with feet toward the window and push them through window Feet First. Hold Infants close to your chest and Exit Vehicle
Stay with Vehicle, hold onto Vehicle and put children/elderly/pets on leash or in carrier on top of vehicle, IF water Continues to RISE – GET ON TOP OF VEHICLE – this will help keep you from being swept away in the flood waters and people can see you better. Once your people are secure on roof of vehicle, IF YOU CAN SAFELY DO SO< try to call 911 and tell them your exact location.
ONLY SWIM as a Last Resort if vehicle is completely under water ro being swept away. Swim defensively, float on your back with feet pointing to where water is going to try and avoid debris in the water. Try to point and angle your body toward calmer water or a shoreline.
