Start A GO BAG Tips – All items from the CHecklist for the SIMPLE 48 Hour GO BAG, 1 PERSON plus a couple more.

Do not be intimidated by a list, take your time and walk through house gathering items.

I am showing you what my regular school backpack with items already in the house looks like. I put some items in sandwich bags and put into a pile by backpack.

I was surprised I had plenty of space left over for more clothes like a sweater and if needed, more hygiene, baby stuff or food items.

The bag packed weighed about 10 lbs (2.27 kg) mainly due to the 5 bottles of water and 1 electrolyte replacement bottle of drink plus a beefy battery pack for phone – that I recommend getting as soon as possible. I put in 5 protein bars, 2 packs of tuna and crackers for sustenance that would be plenty for me because I will be “busy” for those 48 hours monitoring news, dog, friends/family, driving, following evacuation route, etc. YOu may need other foods and types of foods but will have plenty of room. I also have a small dog that I know won’t eat for a day or two but I did include dry dog food.

I did have a phone battery pack, headlamp and whistle to put in. There may be some things you need to buy but use whatever you have for now. Is it pretty? Nope. Will it work and I will be able to “go” for 48 hours? YES –

Pack up what you can for now, later pick up a inexpensive back pack for each kid – they will know which backpack is theirs based on color or the design – you can specialize each backpack with a comfort item, book, game or snack for that child.

Still feel a little overwhelming? Go grab a grocery bag and put in 3 things – 1 piece of any type of clothing item, 2 any size band-aids, 1 bottle of water or any drink. Great Start!! Later and add another item. Something is better than Nothing.

NExt time when you out shopping – pick up travel size first aid kit and travel size hygiene kit. BOth are in their own little bag to just add to GO BAG.

You can do this and 1 less thing to worry about you and family being able to get through some “event”. DONE !!
